It read \u201cJesus the Nazarene, the king of the Jews.\u201d 20Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city and it was written in Aramaic, Latin, and Greek. 21Therefore, the Jewish chief priests complained to Pilate, \u201cDon\u2019t write, \u2018The king of the Jews\u2019 but \u2018This man said, \u201cI am the king of the Jews.\u201d\u2019\u201d 22Pilate answered, \u201cWhat I\u2019ve written, I\u2019ve written.\u201d 23When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and his sandals, and divided them into four shares, one for each soldier. His shirt was seamless, woven as one piece from the top to the bottom. 24They said to each other, \u201cLet\u2019s not tear it. Let\u2019s cast lots to see who will get it.\u201d This was to fulfill the scripture, They divided my clothes among themselves, and they cast lots for my clothing. That\u2019s what the soldiers did. 25Jesus\u2019 mother and his mother\u2019s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene stood near the cross. 26When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, \u201cWoman, here is your son.\u201d 27Then he said to the disciple, \u201cHere is your mother.\u201d And from that time on, this disciple took her into his home. 28After this, knowing that everything was already completed, in order to fulfill the scripture, Jesus said, \u201cI am thirsty.\u201d 29A jar full of sour wine was nearby, so the soldiers soaked a sponge in it, placed it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. 30When he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, \u201cIt is completed.\u201d Bowing his head, he gave up his life.
