I\u2019ve suffered much today in a dream because of him.\u201d 20But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and kill Jesus. 21The governor said, \u201cWhich of the two do you want me to release to you?\u201d \u201cBarabbas,\u201d they replied. 22Pilate said, \u201cThen what should I do with Jesus who is called Christ?\u201d They all said, \u201cCrucify him!\u201d 23But he said, \u201cWhy? What wrong has he done?\u201d They shouted even louder, \u201cCrucify him!\u201d 24Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere and that a riot was starting. So he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. \u201cI\u2019m innocent of this man\u2019s blood,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s your problem.\u201d 25All the people replied, \u201cLet his blood be on us and on our children.\u201d 26Then he released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus whipped, then handed him over to be crucified.
