He sent messengers off to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, \u201cAm I going to recover from this accident?\u201d 3-4 God\u2019s angel spoke to Elijah the Tishbite: \u201cUp on your feet! Go out and meet the messengers of the king of Samaria with this word, \u2018Is it because there\u2019s no God in Israel that you\u2019re running off to consult Baal-Zebub god of Ekron?\u2019 Here\u2019s a message from the God you\u2019ve tried to bypass: \u2018You\u2019re not going to get out of that bed you\u2019re in\u2014you\u2019re as good as dead already.\u2019\u201d Elijah delivered the message and was gone. 5The messengers went back. The king said, \u201cSo why are you back so soon\u2014what\u2019s going on?\u201d 6They told him, \u201cA man met us and said, \u2018Turn around and go back to the king who sent you; tell him, God\u2019s message: Is it because there\u2019s no God in Israel that you\u2019re running off to consult Baal-Zebub god of Ekron? You needn\u2019t bother. You\u2019re not going to get out of that bed you\u2019re in\u2014you\u2019re as good as dead already.\u2019\u201d 7The king said, \u201cTell me more about this man who met you and said these things to you. What was he like?\u201d 8\u201cShaggy,\u201d they said, \u201cand wearing a leather belt.\u201d He said, \u201cThat has to be Elijah the Tishbite!\u201d 9The king sent a captain with fifty men to Elijah. Meanwhile Elijah was sitting, big as life, on top of a hill. The captain said, \u201cO Holy Man! King\u2019s orders: Come down!\u201d 10Elijah answered the captain of the fifty, \u201cIf it\u2019s true that I\u2019m a \u2018holy man,\u2019 lightning strike you and your fifty men!\u201d Out of the blue lightning struck and incinerated the captain and his fifty. 11The king sent another captain with his fifty men, \u201cO Holy Man! King\u2019s orders: Come down. And right now!\u201d 12Elijah answered, \u201cIf it\u2019s true that I\u2019m a \u2018holy man,\u2019 lightning strike you and your fifty men!\u201d Immediately a divine lightning bolt struck and incinerated the captain and his fifty. 13-14The king then sent a third captain with his fifty men. For a third time, a captain with his fifty approached Elijah. This one fell on his knees in supplication: \u201cO Holy Man, have respect for my life and the souls of these fifty men! Twice now lightning from out of the blue has struck and incinerated captains with their fifty men; please, I beg you, respect my life!\u201d 15The angel of God told Elijah, \u201cGo ahead; and don\u2019t be afraid.\u201d Elijah got up and went down with him to the king. 16Elijah told him, \u201cGod\u2019s word: Because you sent messengers to consult Baal-Zebub the god of Ekron, as if there were no God in Israel to whom you could pray, you\u2019ll never get out of that bed alive\u2014already you\u2019re as good as dead.\u201d 17And he died, exactly as God\u2019s word spoken by Elijah had said. Because Ahaziah had no son, his brother Joram became the next king. The succession took place in the second year of the reign of Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah. 18The rest of Ahaziah\u2019s life is recorded in The Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
