I want to show kindness to this person. I want to do it for Jonathan.\u201d 2There was a servant named Ziba from Saul\u2019s family. David\u2019s servants called Ziba to David. King David said to Ziba, \u201cAre you Ziba?\u201d Ziba said, \u201cYes, I am your servant Ziba.\u201d 3The king said, \u201cIs there anyone left in Saul\u2019s family? I want to show God\u2019s kindness to this person.\u201d Ziba said to King David, \u201cJonathan has a son still living. He is crippled in both feet.\u201d 4The king said to Ziba, \u201cWhere is this son?\u201d Ziba said to the king, \u201cHe is at the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar.\u201d 5Then King David sent some of his officers to Lo Debar to bring Jonathan\u2019s son from the house of Makir son of Ammiel. 6Jonathan\u2019s son Mephibosheth came to David and bowed with his face low to the floor. David said, \u201cMephibosheth?\u201d Mephibosheth said, \u201cYes sir, it is I, your servant Mephibosheth.\u201d 7David said to Mephibosheth, \u201cDon\u2019t be afraid. I will be kind to you because of your father Jonathan. I will give back to you all the land of your grandfather Saul. And you will always be able to eat at my table.\u201d 8Mephibosheth bowed to David again and he said, \u201cI am no better than a dead dog, but you are being very kind to me.\u201d 9Then King David called Saul\u2019s servant Ziba and said, \u201cI have given Saul\u2019s family and everything he owns to your master\u2019s grandson, Mephibosheth. 10You will farm the land for Mephibosheth. Your sons and servants will do this for him. You will harvest the crops. Then your master\u2019s grandson will have plenty of food to eat, but Mephibosheth will always be allowed to eat at my table.\u201d Ziba had 15 sons and 20 servants. 11He said to King David, \u201cI am your servant. I will do everything that my lord the king commands.\u201d So Mephibosheth ate at David\u2019s table like one of the king\u2019s sons. 12Mephibosheth had a young son named Mica. All the people in Ziba\u2019s family became Mephibosheth\u2019s servants. 13Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem.
