Meanwhile Israel had made camp at the spring at Jezreel. As the Philistine warlords marched forward by regiments and divisions, David and his men were bringing up the rear with Achish. 3The Philistine officers said, \u201cWhat business do these Hebrews have being here?\u201d Achish answered the officers, \u201cDon\u2019t you recognize David, ex-servant of King Saul of Israel? He\u2019s been with me a long time. I\u2019ve found nothing to be suspicious of, nothing to complain about, from the day he defected from Saul until now.\u201d 4-5Angry with Achish, the Philistine officers said, \u201cSend this man back to where he came from. Let him stick to his normal duties. He\u2019s not going into battle with us. He\u2019d switch sides in the middle of the fight! What better chance to get back in favor with his master than by stabbing us in the back! Isn\u2019t this the same David they celebrate at their parties, singing, Saul kills by the thousand, David by the ten thousand!\u201d 6-7So Achish had to send for David and tell him, \u201cAs God lives, you\u2019ve been a trusty ally\u2014excellent in all the ways you have worked with me, beyond reproach in the ways you have conducted yourself. But the warlords don\u2019t see it that way. So it\u2019s best that you leave peacefully, now. It\u2019s not worth it, displeasing the Philistine warlords.\u201d 8\u201cBut what have I done?\u201d said David. \u201cHave you had a single cause for complaint from the day I joined up with you until now? Why can\u2019t I fight against the enemies of my master the king?\u201d 9-10\u201cI agree,\u201d said Achish. \u201cYou\u2019re a good man\u2014as far as I\u2019m concerned, God\u2019s angel! But the Philistine officers were emphatic: \u2018He\u2019s not to go with us into battle.\u2019 So get an early start, you and the men who came with you. As soon as you have light enough to travel, go.\u201d 11David rose early, he and his men, and by daybreak they were on their way back to Philistine country. The Philistines went on to Jezreel. Philippians <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yp8tNTQwX-I&amp;t=133s\">2:13<\/a> What I\u2019m getting at, friends, is that you should simply keep on doing what you\u2019ve done from the beginning. When I was living among you, you lived in responsive obedience. Now that I\u2019m separated from you, keep it up. Better yet, redouble your efforts. Be energetic in your life of salvation, reverent and sensitive before God.
