Achish said to David, \u201cYou can count on this: You\u2019re marching with my troops, you and your men.\u201d 2And David said, \u201cGood! Now you\u2019ll see for yourself what I can do!\u201d \u201cGreat!\u201d said Achish. \u201cI\u2019m making you my personal bodyguard\u2014for life!\u201d Saul Prayed, but God Didn\u2019t Answer 3Samuel was now dead. All Israel had mourned his death and buried him in Ramah, his hometown. Saul had long since cleaned out all those who held s\u00e9ances with the dead. 4-5The Philistines had mustered their troops and camped at Shunem. Saul had assembled all Israel and camped at Gilboa. But when Saul saw the Philistine troops, he shook in his boots, scared to death. 6Saul prayed to God, but God didn\u2019t answer\u2014neither by dream nor by sign nor by prophet. 7So Saul ordered his officials, \u201cFind me someone who can call up spirits so I may go and seek counsel from those spirits.\u201d His servants said, \u201cThere\u2019s a witch at Endor.\u201d 8Saul disguised himself by putting on different clothes. Then, taking two men with him, he went under the cover of night to the woman and said, \u201cI want you to consult a ghost for me. Call up the person I name.\u201d 9The woman said, \u201cJust hold on now! You know what Saul did, how he swept the country clean of mediums. Why are you trying to trap me and get me killed?\u201d 10Saul swore solemnly, \u201cAs God lives, you won\u2019t get in any trouble for this.\u201d 11The woman said, \u201cSo whom do you want me to bring up?\u201d \u201cSamuel. Bring me Samuel.\u201d 12When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out loudly to Saul, \u201cWhy did you lie to me? You\u2019re Saul!\u201d 13The king told her, \u201cYou have nothing to fear &#8230;but what do you see?\u201d \u201cI see a spirit ascending from the underground.\u201d 14\u201cAnd what does he look like?\u201d Saul asked. \u201cAn old man ascending, robed like a priest.\u201d Saul knew it was Samuel. He fell down, face to the ground, and worshiped. 15Samuel said to Saul, \u201cWhy have you disturbed me by calling me up?\u201d \u201cBecause I\u2019m in deep trouble,\u201d said Saul. \u201cThe Philistines are making war against me and God has deserted me\u2014he doesn\u2019t answer me any more, either by prophet or by dream. And so I\u2019m calling on you to tell me what to do.\u201d 16-19\u201cWhy ask me?\u201d said Samuel. \u201cGod has turned away from you and is now on the side of your neighbor. God has done exactly what he told you through me\u2014ripped the kingdom right out of your hands and given it to your neighbor. It\u2019s because you did not obey God, refused to carry out his seething judgment on Amalek, that God does to you what he is doing today. Worse yet, God is turning Israel, along with you, over to the Philistines. Tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. And, yes, indeed, God is giving Israel\u2019s army up to the Philistines.\u201d 20-22Saul dropped to the ground, felled like a tree, terrified by Samuel\u2019s words. There wasn\u2019t an ounce of strength left in him\u2014he\u2019d eaten nothing all day and all night. The woman, realizing that he was in deep shock, said to him, \u201cListen to me. I did what you asked me to do, put my life in your hands in doing it, carried out your instructions to the letter. It\u2019s your turn to do what I tell you: Let me give you some food. Eat it. It will give you strength so you can get on your way.\u201d 23-25He refused. \u201cI\u2019m not eating anything.\u201d But when his servants joined the woman in urging him, he gave in to their pleas, picked himself up off the ground, and sat on the bed. The woman moved swiftly. She butchered a grain-fed calf she had, and took some flour, kneaded it, and baked some flat bread. Then she served it all up for Saul and his servants. After dining handsomely, they got up from the table and were on their way that same night. 1 Peter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xQZEwUpAyUA&amp;t=195s\">3:15<\/a> The Message verse of the day If with heart and soul you\u2019re doing good, do you think you can be stopped? Even if you suffer for it, you\u2019re still better off. Don\u2019t give the opposition a second thought. Through thick and thin, keep your hearts at attention, in adoration before Christ, your Master. Be ready to speak up and tell anyone who asks why you\u2019re living the way you are, and always with the utmost courtesy. Keep a clear conscience before God so that when people throw mud at you, none of it will stick. They\u2019ll end up realizing that they\u2019re the ones who need a bath. It\u2019s better to suffer for doing good, if that\u2019s what God wants, than to be punished for doing bad. That\u2019s what Christ did definitively: suffered because of others\u2019 sins, the Righteous One for the unrighteous ones.
