They\u2019re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don\u2019t fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this: Our Father in heaven, Reveal who you are. Set the world right; Do what\u2019s best\u2014 as above, so below. Keep us alive with three square meals. Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others. Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil. You\u2019re in charge! You can do anything you want! You\u2019re ablaze in beauty! Yes. Yes. Yes. 1 Samuel 27 chapter of the day 1David thought to himself, \u201cSooner or later, Saul\u2019s going to get me. The best thing I can do is escape to Philistine country. Saul will count me a lost cause and quit hunting me down in every nook and cranny of Israel. I\u2019ll be out of his reach for good.\u201d 2-4So David left; he and his six hundred men went to Achish son of Maoch, king of Gath. They moved in and settled down in Gath, with Achish. Each man brought his household; David brought his two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail, widow of Nabal of Carmel. When Saul was told that David had escaped to Gath, he called off the hunt. 5Then David said to Achish, \u201cIf it\u2019s agreeable to you, assign me a place in one of the rural villages. It doesn\u2019t seem right that I, your mere servant, should be taking up space in the royal city.\u201d 6-7So Achish assigned him Ziklag. (This is how Ziklag got to be what it is now, a city of the kings of Judah.) David lived in Philistine country a year and four months. 8-9From time to time David and his men raided the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites\u2014these people were longtime inhabitants of the land stretching toward Shur and on to Egypt. When David raided an area he left no one alive, neither man nor woman, but took everything else: sheep, cattle, donkeys, camels, clothing\u2014the works. Then he\u2019d return to Achish. 10-11Achish would ask, \u201cAnd whom did you raid today?\u201d David would tell him, \u201cOh, the Negev of Judah,\u201d or \u201cThe Negev of Jerahmeel,\u201d or \u201cThe Negev of the Kenites.\u201d He never left a single person alive lest one show up in Gath and report what David had really been doing. This is the way David operated all the time he lived in Philistine country. 12Achish came to trust David completely.
